Setting up Squeemote
How do I tell Squeemote how to find my server?
Squeemote will try and automatically detect your server on your network. If your Squeezebox is able to detect your server automatically, then Squeemote should also be able to detect it. There are certain situations where Squeemote will be unable to detect your server. If this is the case, then you will need to configure Squeemote manually.
My server requires a username and password. Will Squeemote still work?
Yes, Squeemote will automatically detect that a username and password is required to access your server and will prompt you to enter a username and password. You should only need to do this once, when you first connect. The username and password settings can always be accessed from the iPhone Settings application.
How do I configure Squeemote manually?
If server detection fails, Squeemote will display a manual setup screen. You can use this screen to enter your server hostname or IP address, port (default 9000) and CLI port (default 9090). You can also specify a username and password here if your server requires authentication.
Browsing my library
I’d like to browse my music by genre, can I do this?
As of version 1.2, Squeemote will allow you to browse by genre however it is not one of the visible tabs by default. Click no the “More” tab and you will see a list of other options, including “Genres”. You can change the order of tabs to suit your preference by clicking the “Edit” button from this screen and dragging the menu items where you want them.
How do I add a track/album to the end of the current playlist?
When viewing a list of tracks (for either an album or playlist), you can use the “Touch and Hold” gesture to add the track to the end of the current playlist. Hold your finger down on the track you want to enqueue for approx. one second. It will turn blue to indicate you have selected the track and will flash yellow to indicate that the track has been enqueued. You can now release your finger. Support for the “Touch and Hold” gesture will be available for Albums in a future release of Squeemote.
Squeemote doesn’t seem to detect my new music, what’s happening?
For performance reasons, Squeemote keeps a copy of your albums and artists on your device. Old versions of Squeemote had a “Sync” button which could be used to refresh this cache. In the new version of Squeemote, these lists are refreshed automatically in the background when it detects the server has recently run a new scan. The old artist/album list will be displayed until the new list has been completely downloaded. If you exit Squeemote whilst this is happening, it will try resume downloading the list the next time you open it.
Controlling devices
How do I choose which device to control?
There are two ways of selecting the “active” device. The first method is from the “Devices” tab. This will display a list of available devices; simply tap a device to control and it will be indicated by a check mark. You can also use this screen to choose the default active device. The second way is to use the Quick Device Selection/Device Sync screen (see below for more information).
Squeemote doesn’t detect all of my devices, what should I do?
Try restarting Squeemote. If your device still doesn’t appear, verify that you can see it using the SqueezeCenter web interface. If it appears here but Squeemote still will not detect it, or you experience this problem frequently, please file a support request.
Can I sync devices and control them together?
Yes. As of version 1.2, Squeemote has the ability to sync devices and control them together from the Quick Device Selection/Device Sync screen (see below for more information).
How does the “Quick Device Selection” screen work?
You can access this screen from the Now Playing screen by tapping the Squeemote icon in the bottom right corner. This screen will display a list of available devices and various information about each one such as the currently playing track, its power status and its sync status. There is also a power button for each device that can be used to turn each device on or off. This screen operates in two distinct modes: “Solo” mode and “Sync” mode. The button in the bottom-left of the screen can be used to switch between these modes.
Solo mode: In this mode, the screen acts as a device selection screen. You can use the active/inactive buttons to switch between the different devices on your network. When you return to the Now Playing screen, it will be updated to reflect what is playing on the selected active device.
Sync mode: In this mode, the currently active device becomes the “master” device and all other devices are available to be synched with this master device. Tapping the “Sync” button for a device will synchronise it with the master. The ∞ symbol displayed next to the device’s power status light will indicate that a device is synched, even when you are in Solo mode. On the Now Playing screen, the ∞ symbol will appear on the Squeemote icon to indicate that the currently selected device is synched with another device.
